The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Exclusive Card Reveal – Magic: The Gathering

We’ve bought the unique reveal of the primary playing cards from Magic: The Gathering’s subsequent Universes Beyond crossover set: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth.

Tom reveals off The One Ring and Gandalf the Grey, in addition to the brand new showcase ring remedy and artwork for Gandalf the White, all of which will likely be a part of this draftable set that’s authorized in MTG’s Modern format.

More reveals will likely be taking place on Wizards of the Coast’s WeeklyMTG livestream at 10am PT on March 14th.

  1. Gandalf is a servant of the secret fire of creation through iluvatar, and wielder of the Flame of Anor, his magic ring. Gandalf also has an affinity for nature and the power of healing. The balrog is a wielder of dark fire. Gandalf could be blue/red, white/red and/or green/white. The balrog should be black/red.

Mirkwood is corrupted as of the Lord of the rings, so it being a forest is confusing.

  2. Whatever design, powerlevel and chase cards they put in this set, i'm not touching it when pre-orders are 210$US for a set booster box or 440$ for a Collector Box… double what it costs for a Standard Magic set like Phyrexia:All Will Be One. And this is coming from someone who was a huge LOTR fan when teenager. These prices are absurd and not inclusive.

  3. Immediate thoughts on the One Ring is that it and Sheoldred would play well together i.e. the life loss is completely neutralized unless your life is too low to survive before Sheoldred's life gain kicks in.

  4. This "one ring" is lame if there was ever a time to go overboard on a card this is it. Make three cards, The one ring, Mt Doom, and Frodo. If you have all 3 you win the game.. it should give shroud/indestructible when equipped to a non-commander, legendary or plains walker and life drain the equipped make the ring inexpensive to equip, expensive to unequip). If a commander is equipped (cannot unequip) take control of all other commanders but you lose the game in X turns. There are so many ways they could have gone with this (Sauron has the ability to control any creature that equips the one ring)
