Some New Game Of Thrones TV Shows Have Been "Shelved," GRRM Says

Author George R.R. Martin has confirmed that a few of the upcoming Game of Thrones TV exhibits within the works will not be transferring forward, at the very least not proper now. Posting on his Not A Blog, Martin mentioned a few of these “successor shows” have been “shelved,” although they are not essentially useless endlessly.

In a put up detailing his upcoming tasks, Martin mentioned he continues to develop new Game of Thrones exhibits with HBO. As is at all times the case with TV growth, some exhibits are “moving faster than others” and a few are transferring slower, or stopped completely. “

“None have been greenlit but, although we hope… possibly quickly. A pair have been shelved, however I might not agree that they’re useless. You can take one thing off the shelf as simply as you’ll be able to put it on the shelf,” he said.

Martin went on to say that the recent changes at HBO Max have “impacted us, definitely.” Martin is likely referring to the recent shakeup at Warner Bros. Discovery, the media giant that runs HBO Max.

When a project is in development, that doesn’t mean it will be seen through to release, and that seems to have been the case with a few Game of Thrones successor shows, though Martin did not name them outright.

Some of the upcoming Game of Thrones successor show ideas in the works include Ten Thousand Ships, Sea Snake, and The Hedge Knight/Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. There is also a Jon Snow TV show in the works with Kit Harington set to come back in the lead role. But again, none of these projects have been greenlit, and as Martin said, some have been “shelved.”

HBO filmed a Game of Thrones prequel TV series featuring Naomi Watts and then canceled it after spending $30 million on the pilot.

One Game of Thrones series that is going ahead is House of the Dragon, which is coming back for a second season at some point in the future. Filming will begin early 2023.
