It’s been 5 years since Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi polarized Star Wars followers and the Glass Onion director continues to be involved in coming again. There hasn’t been any latest replace for Johnson’s proposed trilogy of Star Wars motion pictures, and if these by no means find yourself taking place, he’d be disenchanted. Still, the director stays hopeful.
“It wouldn’t be the end of the world for anyone, I think,” Johnson instructed Insider. “But I would be sad. I love the world. I love the people. I love Star Wars fans. I love the passion of how they engage in it. There’s nothing like telling a story in this world and then experiencing people truly connecting to it and letting you know that. It’s extraordinary.”
When it was introduced that Johnson would helm his personal trilogy after The Last Jedi, the Star Wars franchise was at a very totally different place in popular culture. So much has modified in 5 years and Rise of Skywalker was reported to be a “course correction” after some Star Wars followers took The Last Jedi as an assault on the fandom, and even harassed star Kelly Marie Tran off of social media. Johnson moved on to make the homicide thriller Knives Out, which was an enormous hit, incomes him his first Oscar nomination.
“I have talked to [Kathleen Kennedy] about it and we’re still talking about it,” Johnson instructed Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast again in October. “I had such an amazing experience making The Last Jedi. It’s entirely a matter of scheduling. For me, putting [Glass Onion] out and making the next one of these… the answer is I don’t know.”
Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery hits Netflix on December 23.
