NHL 23 Review

NHL 23 reviewed by Matt Paprocki on PlayStation 5. Also accessible on Xbox Series X.

“It’s overdue, but NHL 23 finally looks and feels like it belongs on these beefier new-generation consoles. The visual tech upgrade adds stellar reality to the on-ice play, which also benefits from players who are willing to dive for the puck to make a desperate goal or save. It gains new energy from crowds reacting to the action like real crowds would, bringing a definitive audio design that’s best-in-class for stadium effects. Franchise mode customization greatly expands, and seeing women in the fold for the first time feels right – and also overdue. At the same time there are several modes that are outright ignored, including the completely recycled Be a Pro single-player campaign, and its microtransaction-driven Ultimate Team mode comes with the usual caveats about its predatory, profit-driven nature.”

  1. Those clips look straight up glitchy and slow. Does not look like real hockey, even the fight looked down right awful. Anyone who has seen a real game can tell that have the animations look over the top fake, like something out of a 2k wrestling game 🤣.

  2. Giving this game an 8/10 is just criminal. This game is awful and has almost no changes from 22, plus so much false advertising with this game. This reviewer definitely doesn’t watch hockey and has never played any other NHL game before this. Plus bro plays in broadcast mode 💀💀💀💀

  3. Wow has this person played a previous NHL game? The first major push forward since 2014? The games have only gotten worse since then and the first games on PS4/XBONE were bare bones because they weren't ready for the new consoles. They are basically only glowing about better audio and video like they are jumping 2 generations and the difference is minuscule. They don't address many things that have plagued the series for years and didn't even touch an entire game mode. How they can justify giving this an 8/10 blows my mind.

  4. "if you're a fan of the single player modes, NHL 23 simply isn't worth buying unless roster updates are worth that much to you"

    8/10

how? how can it be an 8/10 with that damning statement in the review?
