    Near Dark returns to streaming with Criterion Channel’s unbelievable October ’80s horror lineup

    Criterion Channel is kicking off the Halloween season with an avalanche of nice horror films as a part of its ’80s Horror sequence. The lineup arrives on Oct. 1 and contains classics from everywhere in the world and under-the-radar gems. The large get? Near Dark, a film that’s notoriously troublesome to stream.

    Near Dark is a 1987 horror-action vampire film from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Despite this cult-classic film starring Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, and coming from a lauded American motion director, it’s not often been out there on streaming platforms for one motive or one other. The sequence may also embody one other vampire-classic in Tony Scott’s The Hunger, which can be part of the lineup on Nov. 1.
