Diablo 4’s boss Rod Fergusson has recently hyped fans about the launch of the upcoming Season 2 of the game. The next Diablo 4 season will be released on October 17. It’s called Season of Blood and its story will be focused on a powerful vampiric dark lord.
Diablo 4 was a huge hit when it was launched back in June, and it quickly became Blizzard’s fastest-selling game ever. However, the hype around the title started to dip when the first season was launched, as the game was heavily criticized for nerfing certain builds and making the game more time-consuming to play, which alienated part of its player base.
Now, the senior vice-president of Blizzard and general manager of Diablo 4, Rod Fergusson, affirmed that the new season of the game will bring so much content to players that two deep dive streams will be needed to cover all that is coming. If these streams follow the duration of previous ones, each will be around two hours, so it’s safe to expect three to four hours of streaming content explaining the content of the upcoming soon.
At the moment, not much is known about Season of Blood, especially regarding the new content, but Blizzard has already unveiled that five new and returning endgame bosses will appear during the season and that a new Vampire Hunter companion called Erys will be introduced in the game’s story. So, surely, there’s a lot to unpack in the upcoming streams.
Diablo 4’s previous season, known as Season of the Malignant, included a Battle Pass with 90 tiers (27 of them for free), Malignant Hearts gems that boosted the power of items, and the exclusive Malignant Tunnel dungeons, so players can expect similar content and much more in this upcoming season. However, it’s worth noting that Season of the Malignant was heavily criticized for being too slow, not having enough content, and for the infamous nerfs of the 1.1 update, so hopefully, Blizzard is aware of that and won’t repeat these mistakes.
In any case, Season 2 needs to be a win for Blizzard if the company wants to continue the game as a live service that players keep coming back to. Making Diablo 4’s next season bigger than the first is not a bad way to regain the attention of players, though, so gamers will want to wait for the deep dive streaming before making up their minds about the new season.
Diablo 4 is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
